Time of the Year to be Married

One of the most common questions I get asked when walking around with prospective brides and grooms is, When is the best time to be married?

Good question. The short answer is that no one time is better than the next on all levels. The date really depends on what you're looking for in the experience.

April is when Ale and I got married, because it was relatively good weather, rooms were available and inexpensive for my family and friends, and the flowers were in bloom all over the grounds. We also felt that it was quiet enough to feel like we had the place to ourselves.

I think May is about the same, with better weather and more flowers and colors.

September is another favorite month of mine, because it seems to have this air about it that conveys a wind down to the multitudes of summer. Ferries are easier to catch, rooms are still available and the prices for everything starts to become less expensive. The resort feels like it's holding on to summer still, but there's a new energy about, as well.

When did you get married and what did you think? Was it the right time? Would you have chosen another time, now that you've been through it? Why did you make your choice of that month or date?

  1. We had our wedding in August ( o8/o8/o8 to be exact). We chose the month and day because my husband is chinese and 8 is a very lucky number in chinese culture, but August at Roche Harbor is soooo beautiful. All of the flowers are in bloom, the harbor is full of yachts and sailboats and the sky was clear and blue. Roche Harbor is one of my favorite places on earth.

  2. I was a photogapher for Condee and Keegan's wedding. The wedding was in April, and as a photographer I felt like Condee and Keegan rented the whole place because anywhere we go there were guests from the wedding. That was aweome! :) Also, I should mention that Alejandra and you did a great job to make the wedding very memorable!
By the way, great idea about the blog Sam! My second photographer liked the wedding so much that he was very interested to have his wedding there and this blog will be of great help!

  3. Thanks, Victor, for the kind words and beautiful photographs! You're right about the "having the place to yourself." Over the past three years that second Saturday in April has been booked by a bride and groom who have felt so amazed at the feeling conveyed in having most of the rooms at the resort. I think we've established a pattern!

My wife and I were married the first Saturday in April 2007, and we felt the same way, even though we worked at the place. I only saw and heard and felt the wedding. It was a wonderful feeling, one not duplicated since.
